McClure hails BKS commitment

COLERAINE DUP Alderman James McClure has welcomed assurances from the Furgo-BKS company that its future in Coleraine is secure.

However, the local representative says the parent company’s decision to shed 15 per cent of its local work staff is a warning that the global recession is still impacting on local industry and business.

Alderman McClure said: “BKS has been an excellent employer in Coleraine for many years.

It has a global reputation for high standards and has been a shining example of the quality of employee available in this area.

“I am pleased to learn that the parent company, Fugro NV, remains committed to Coleraine.

“We need to protect high quality jobs such as this and the companys assurances are important in uncertain times.

“I sympathise with the staff who are losing their jobs when the opportunities to find new employment in such a specialised field are extremely difficult.

“Many people are still feeling the pain of recession in their household budgets and protecting existing jobs is a major challenge.”
