Margaret Jones’ 90th Birthday party

The Very Reverend Andrew Rogers, a former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, opened proceedings by saying grace before the dinner.

The after dinner entertainment was organised by the ladies of the Trinity Church Ballymoney Pastoral Care Team, led by Karen Acheson and Margaret Scott, who wrote and performed a humorous sketch based on Margaret’s many years as the manager of the Ballymoney Health Centre, and on the inability of her son Peter (a Professor at King’s College London) to put the correct postage on the party invitation letters.

Joe McMillan kept the laughter coming with a series of “Joe’s Jokes”, after which Margaret’s daughter, Dr Aleen Jones, made a speech incorporating a light-hearted biographical poem of Margaret’s life written by Margaret Robinson.

Margaret Jones responded by making a short speech of thanks in which she read a poem describing some of the advantages and disadvantages of growing old, and which she concluded by inviting all the guests to join her back at the Royal Court in 10 years time for her 100th birthday party.
