Man smashed hotel window

Graham Wilson, Windsor Avenue, Lisburn, admitted criminal damage to a window on March 7 this year.

He was given 120 hours community service last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court and ordered to pay £126 to cover the cost of repairs.

The court heard that at 1am police were tasked to the Seagoe Hotel after a report of males fighting. They spoke to the night porter who said that someone had thrown a bottle across a room and smashed a large window before running out.

Wilson was found on Church Road opposite the hotel and said: “I didn’t mean to hit the window. I’m sorry.”

The case had been adjourned from a previous court so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained. In the report Wilson said he had thrown the bottle in frustration and it bounced off the floor before hitting the window.

A solicitor representing the defendant said his client had a considerable record with two entries for criminal damage four years ago.

He explained that Wilson had been at a family wedding and the criminal damage was not intended but reckless.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said it was a suitable case for community service.
