Magherafelt motorist on mobile phone ‘clipped’ police officer
Joseph Patrick Hurley (21), Beechland Drive, admitted 18 of motoring charges including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, failing to report an accident whereby injury was caused; careless driving; speeding; having no insurance and breach of a traffic sign.
A PPS lawyer said on July 14, police saw the defendant leaving the filling station using a mobile phone. She said the defendant caused a constable to move out of the way, and as he passed he “clipped” the officer with the rear of his vehicle, and drove away. Continuing, the lawyer said police also spotted the defendant not wearing a seatbelt at a mini roundabout.
