They have been nominated for Best New Banner and also Lodge Community Involvement.

Dollingstown’s new banner features an image of the old white row in the village with a soldier and woman in the foreground saying farewell, with the caption ‘Every House Mourned’. It recalls the sacrifice made by local soldiers, and their families, during the First World War.

The community involvement nomination also relates to remembrance of WWI and in particular the wooden soldier which now stands as a solemn reminder of the sacrifice at the Somme in 1916.

In 2008 lodge stalwart Bruce Kidd won an individual award for his work in the Dollingstown community.

The awards take place in the Island Arts Centre Lisburn on Friday, March 31, and start at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the arts centre and the lodge says it ‘would very much appreciate your support at this very enjoyable event’.
