Girls receive Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Girls from a number of local Girls’ Brigade companies received awards at the inaugural Duke of Edinburgh Award presentation ceremony recently.

The first ever GBNI Duke of Edinburgh Award presentation evening was held in First Ahoghill Presbyterian Church.

The event was attended by 92 girls who had attained either the Bronze, Silver or Expedition Leader Awards.

These included girls from 149th NI Templepatrick Presbyterian GB, 162nd NI Ballynure Presbyterian GB, 275th NI Ballylinney Presbyterian GB and 314th NI Church of the Good Shepherd GB in Monkstown.

The awards were presented by Kate Thompson, DofE director for Northern Ireland, who congratulated the girls on their dedication and praised the huge commitment of the volunteers who run the DofE scheme within the Girls’ Brigade.
