Garryduff dedication

Last week saw a special event in the life of Garryduff Flute band when members, friends and supporters gathered at Garryduff Independent Orange Hall to dedicate new flutes, hats, a bass drum and a bannerette for the use of the band.

Accompanied by the band, the evening began with the audience singing the hymn ‘What a Friend we have in Jesus’.

A short history of the band was then given by Bro James Anderson PM Garryduff ILOL 15, who was acting as chairman. Rev Rodney Moody of Garryduff Presbyterian Church proceeded to dedicate the items for the band and gave a short address based on Psalm 150.

At this point the band played a number of musical items. This year has seen the band move forward in a new direction, having adopted a melody flute style of playing, with the introduction of second flute parts and low tension drums. The long hours of practice over the winter months resulted in a performance that was well received by those in attendance, with Bro Anderson stating that the lodge members would be looking forward to parading behind the band this year. The band takes part in about 15-20 parades throughout the year, mostly in the Ballymoney area.
