Funeral reflects what should have been Graeme's happiest day

THE hundreds who gathered to say a final farewell to Graeme Nixon – who lost his life while collecting whelks in Larne Lough – could not have escaped the poignancy of the setting of his funeral service.

Centred in the Old Presbyterian Church of Larne and Kilwaughter, the occasion was a reflection of what would have been the happiest day for 29-year-old Graeme and his partner, Catriona Dobbin.

Less than a week earlier they should have stood together at the front of the same church with the same clergyman officiating at their marriage ceremony.

Instead, Rev Dr Paul Reid led mourners at Graeme's funeral in the singing of the two hymns the couple had chosen for their special day, Morning has Broken and Love Divine All Loves Excelling.
