Enjoy a Woodland Walk in Cabin Wood

Bordered by the Ballinderry and Killymoon rivers, it glows with beauty, peace and tranquility. Although still a young woodland, it is home to a wide variety of wildlife, some of which we hope to see during a guided walk.

Mark Edgar, Biodiversity Officer with Cookstown District Council said: “There is something special about walking through woodland. It can be appreciated by everybody, from those just out for a pleasant walk, to those searching for a particular species that can only be found in woodland habitat.

“We are delighted that local flora expert Ronnie Irvine will be leading us on our journey through this important woodland. During the walk we will be looking at a range of species, including birds, mammals, insects, and of course the trees themselves, but we will have a particular focus on woodland wildflowers which are prominent at this time of year.”

The Woodland Walk will start at the car park at Cabin Wood on the Tullywiggan Road just 150m off the Loughry Roundabout at 2pm.

Mark said, “Cabin Wood is managed by the Woodland Trust and Cookstown District Council and has a network of paths enabling local people to visit and appreciate the site. We will be following the paths, which do go over sections of uneven ground, and it is an outdoor event, so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather conditions.”
