Daughter of Gerard and Susan Bradley, Emily told the Times: “I had too many sweets left over after Christmas so I decided to do a ‘how many sweets in the jar’ fundraiser at school.

“I have always wanted to raise money for a charity. I chose Action Cancer because my family has been affected by cancer. Action Cancer taught me how to deal with my feelings.

“I think Action Cancer need recognised for what they do. It would be fantastic if they kept the service local. I would like to say a huge thank you to friends and family.

“I had only hoped to raise £100 but the donations kept coming and coming to a total now of £720.

“And well done to my teacher Mr McCann who won the sweets!”

Angela Chambers said: “We are delighted to receive such a fantastic sum of money, especially when it is raised by someone as young as Emily.”
