Drink driver rolled car onto its roof

AN 18-YEAR-OLD driver was disqualified for drink driving after she was involved in an accident in which her car rolled onto its roof.

Hannah Constance of Clare Road, Gilford, also admitted a charge of careless driving arising out of the incident on June 12.

Police had attended the scene of an accident at 2am on June 12. They found a car on its roof, all the windows were broken and all sides of the car damaged. There was no sign of the driver.

The defendant was traced and admitted she had been the driver, She said she had two glasses of cider and some Jello Shots.

An evidential sample found 101 millilitres of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood - the legal limit is 80.

Her solicitor said she had just turned 18 and attends the Southern Regional College.

He said it was not a good start to her driving career.

The solicitor said she had initally got a lift to a party and had some drinks before getting a lift home. About two and a half hours later she got a call at home from a friend just a mile up the road and had taken her own car and lost control on the way.

He pointed out the breath test had been just over the limit which is why a blood test had been called for.

Her car, he said, was a write-off and she had learned a lesson from this.

District Judge Alan White said: "You are very lucky no other vehicle was involved. If somone had been injured you could have been in the crown court and facing a prison sentence.

"I'm sure you are a great disappointment to your parents."

He said as a father of two daughters himself he knew the worry of seeing them going out in the car.

Disqualifying her for 12 months on the drink driving charge he also certified her as suitable for the drink drivers course - on completion of the course her period of disqualification would be reduced. He also fined her 200.

On the careless driving charge her impossed a six month concurrent disqualification and fined her 50.
