DCC knock back ’Stute

DERRY City Council has knocked back a request for an additional £30,000 in funding towards Institute’s upgrade of the Riverside Stadium saying no provision has been made for the money in the 2011/12 rates estimates.

The local authority has already contributed £120,000 to Institute’s ambitious redevelopment plan and members have been invited by the club to view the progress of the works at the Drumahoe ground.

Yesterday the Acting Town Clerk told the Council Development Committee that an invitation had been received from Institute for members and officials to view the progress of the work at the Riverside Stadium.

“Members may recall that Council has contributed £120,000 towards the capital development of the upgrading of the facilities at Institute Football Grounds,” it was reported.

“A further request of £30,000 was requested in March 2011 but this has been declined as no provision was made in the Rates Estimates for 2011/12,” the report added.
