Councillors invited to attend the annual Somme service

LOCAL councillors have been invited to attend the annual Battle of the Somme remembrance parade and service at Knockagh War Memorial on Sunday, June 27.

During their recent monthly meeting, DUP alderman Paul Girvan urged as many members as possible to accept the invite from Carrickfergus Borough Council and attend the event. Echoing that call, alderman Billy DeCourcy said there had been a very poor turnout of elected representatives at the annual Northern Ireland Disabled Ex-Servicemen’s Association service held recently in Sinclair Seamen’s Church in Belfast.

The remembrance parade will form up at the Knockagh War Memorial at 10.40am on June 27, followed by the service at 11am.
