Consent sought for Orange arches

GROUPS or individuals wishing to erect traditional arches across public roads this marching season are reminded by Roads Service they must apply for its consent under Article 73 of the Roads (NI) Order 1993.

Evidence will be required to verify the safety of the arch and confirmation that adequate insurance cover has been taken out. The Department of Regional Development (DRD) must be satisfied the convenience of pedestrians and vehicles will not be prejudiced.

In a public notice DRD Roads Service states: "The Department invited the co-operation of all persons involved in the erection of traditional arches to ensure that the law is complied with and that the safety and convenience of pedestrians and vehicles using the road is not put at risk."
