‘Community Hub’ delight

Coleraine Rural Urban Network (CRUN) is to receive £462,000 to provide a complex of around 9,000 square feet.

The CRUN scheme is one of 12 capital projects, receiving a total of £33m and a 11 revenue projects, aimed at tackling poverty and deprivation through improved community based services and facilities announced by The Office of the The First Minister and Deputy First Minister, through the Social Investment Fund (SIF) programme.

The listed projects have been identified as priorities by Steering Groups in each zone. Letters of offer will issue to the successful projects following completion of verification and governance checks which are now taking place.

The deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said:

“This is only the start and I am confident this funding will enable groups to deliver real benefits for people on the ground. The funding will result in jobs, training and improved facilities for many of the hardest hit areas of our community.”

East Londonderry MP, Gregory Campbell said: “This is good news for Coleraine which will bring the providers of support and advice together at one location near the centre of the town.

“The Causeway Rural and Urban Network (CRUN) along with Causeway CAB, Causeway Volunteer Centre and Age Concern will become part of a Community Hub for the Causeway area by working in one building. CRUN had applied some time ago for funding for new offices at Brook Street Coleraine close to their present location and were successful. This recent announcement of finance of £462,000 from Social Investment Fund will provide the shortfall necessary to make the reality of Community Hub possible.”
