College pupils take on Mill Ponds ‘eco-challenge’

An Eco-School group at Carrickfergus College are continuing to make progress with their plans to enhance the area of the Mill Ponds, close to Carrick Amphitheatre.

The Economical Environmentalists competed in a Dragon’s Den-style competition organised by AES.

The group were successful and received a generous amount of £4000 to implement their project.

To date, new bins and notice boards have been delivered, plants for the sensory garden are being tended to by Sunnybank Garden Centre for planting at the end of June, bat boxes and bird boxes have been made by the occupational studies class, and insect homes are underway.

The hedgehog homes and bat boxes will be installed in the coming weeks in the Mill Pond area.
