Closure of banks comes as serious blow to Ballymoney
Cllr. Finlay said: “Banks offer an important high street service and in Ballymoney we were fortunate to have had all of the main banks represented in the town centre.
“I accept that internet banking is increasingly popular. However Ballymoney is a town serving a large rural hinterland and people in some rural areas have restricted access to the internet. It is also the case that older people are wary of new technologies and prefer to do business over the counter. The decision also sees another town business close, reduced employment and business activity in the town centre. It also presents difficulties for those businesses who lodge cash regularly with the bank and means that more bank customers will have to travel in order to do their banking.”
