Civic support for Transport Awards

Approval has been given by a Council committee to contribute £2,500 towards the staging of the Federation of Passenger Transport NI awards.

The event, which will be held at Galgorm Resort Hotel on February 7, recognises dedication and commitment within the industry and will cost £12,000 to run.

Recommending to last week’s Economic Growth & Development Committee meeting that Council make a £2500 contribution as requested by the ecos centre-based FPTNI, a Council officer pointed out that the awards, held annually in Ballymena, bring a minimum of 60 bed-nights to the town and positive publicity to the area.

Cr Declan O’Loan proposed the request be approved, pointing out: “There is a lot of payback there”.

Seconding him, Cr Audrey Wales suggested that local tourism promotion leaflets be placed on tables at the awards which, it was pointed out, could see 250 visitors attend from outside the borough.
