City set to rock this Hallowe’en

The annual Teenage Kicks Festival will welcome thousands of teenagers to Waterloo Place on Sunday, October 28 from 2pm-8pm when the best in local and regional bands will take to the stage.

The Clameens, Wood Burning Savages will be joined by rising stars Little Bear, alongside an exciting line up of local DJ’s for an all day free music extravaganza.

On Wednesday, October 31, the city centre will again host the live and raw Messing with Music event, offering the opportunity for our newest and brightest young stars to adorn the main stage and rock out from 2pm-5.30pm.

Mayor Kevin Campbell said: “The Council is finalizing preparations for hosting its biggest ever Hallowe’en Carnival, offering something for every member of the family.

“As a city of music, we pride ourselves in the global recognition of both song and artists that have hailed from our walled city and as we get ready to host the City of Culture next year it is vital that we continue to support both the amazing talent of our youth across all communities so they can show this to the world.”

Elaine Griffin, Project Officer with Derry City Council said. “We are delighted to work a range of community and voluntary groups to incorporate these music events in our Hallowe’en programme.

“The aim is so aspiring musicians can showcase and share the same stage with more experienced bands across two days, whilst offering a series of outdoor, alcohol free festivals for young people to enjoy.

“The lineup for both is so impressive this year; we are over the moon to secure a performance from Little Bear at the Teenage Kicks Festival hailed as one of the most exciting musical prospects to emerge from Northern Ireland this year, they have been serenading audiences with their laid back melodic music.

“Messing with Music stage gives selected singers and young developing bands the platform to shine perform to thousands in the heart of the city, fresh from their inspiring weeklong workshops were they received mentoring from professional musicians.”

Bruce Airhead will return to take centre stage at 6.00pm with his unique cabaret act in which he seemly morphs into a six-foot balloon, an act which has to be seen to be believed, followed by favorites the Soul Seekers from 8pm-10pm to keep the crowds entertained alongside the Carnival parade and fireworks display.

Teenage Kicks Festival is organized by cooperation of Divert, Gasyard Feile and the event is strictly for 13-18year olds. Messing with Music is being offered in connection with Greater Shantallow Community Arts and Art Reaching Communities (ARC).
