Challenged police to take him to court

A CRAIGAVON man has been fined £100 and given three penalty points after challenging police to take him to court.

He was 36-year-old Chris Anthony Gorman from Pinebank.

On January 7, 2008 a mobile patrol in Lurgan observed the defendant on the Tandragee Road talking on his mobile phone whilst driving.

He turned into a side road and stopped at which point police tried to issue him with a fixed penalty. He denied he was on the phone, refused the fixed penalty and said to police, "Take me to court".

In Craigavon Magistrate's Court on Thursday Gorman pleaded guilty to the charge.

His solicitor Conor Downey said his client's licence was vital to the transportation of two of his children who suffer from special needs.

Gorman was given three points on his licence and fined 100 for using his mobile phone whilst driving.
