Plans for the consecration of the new section of Carnmoney Cemetery have been put on hold as work on the extension still isn’t complete.

A service involving local clergy, scheduled to take place at the new grave site adjacent to O’Neill Road on October 9, will now take place at a later date.

Work on what is likely to be called the ‘Barnett’ section of the cemetery - named in recognition of a previous owner of the land - was due to be complete by the end of September. However, October’s Planning and Consultation Committee meeting was informed by chairman Cllr Phillip Brett that work at the site is not yet complete.

He said that the item detailing the planned consecration had been withdrawn from the agenda, adding that an update on the cemetery project will be presented to a future meeting.
