Car burnt out in Craigavon

TWO cars were damaged and one burnt out in a crime spree in Craigavon.

One car, an Vauxhall Corsa, was broken into sometime during Thursday night/Friday morning in the Clanrolla Park area.

It is thought a crowbar may have been used to force open one of the doors and an attempt was made to hotwire the car.

Thieves stole the radio and other items and did substantial damage to the interior, including ripping open the glove compartment.

Nearby, thieves also attempted to steal a car however instead it was set alight.

The NI Fire and Rescue Service were called at 6.06am on Friday morning to Clanrolla Park, Moyraverty.

One appliance from Lurgan Fire Station was tasked.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said: “Firefighters extinguished a fire involving a car using a hosereel and breathing apparatus. The fire was started deliberately. The incident was dealt with at 6.31am.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “On Friday morning, 19th, the owner of a Vauxhall Corsa discovered it had been broken into and the steering column had been damaged overnight. The incident happened at Clanrolla Park, where, earlier on Friday, the fire service was called to a Vauxhall Astra that was on fire. It was destroyed in the blaze. Police are trying to establish if the two incidents are linked. Anyone with information is asked to call 0845 600 8000, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
