Boundary Commission proposals that would '˜slice and dice' the Westminster constituency of Mid Ulster have been totally slated in the area.

Drawn up as if by someone “who took a blank sheet of paper and a pencil, closed their eyes and said ‘whatever’” according to Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone, they have been met with total confusion.

Local UUP MLA Sandra Overend said she too was “disappointed” with the proposals, which would see Mid Ulster “cut into pieces and divided out”.

But questions have also been raised about the sense of the proposals not even two years after Stormont rehashed council boundaries in its Review of Public Administration, aimed at aligning the delivery of services.

Mid Ulster MP Francie Molloy said he has a number of questions as “It is hard to see how those connections have been identified by the review group”.
