Bird fouling from overhead cables

The Sinn Fein representative asked NIE’s Customer Relations Manager Christine Baker during a presentation at council on Tuesday night why there was still no solution to the problem and why customers had to foot the bill for dividers to be fitted.

“I have been approached by a number of home owners whose properties have been blighted by bird fouling from overhead electricity cables,” he said.

“It is so bad in some cases they cannot hang their washing out. I don’t understand why should the home owners have to pick up the bill when dividers are fitted to overhead lines?”

Ms Baker said NIE are continually working on a long term solution to the problem.

“We have been working with students to try and solve this problem for a long time, but as yet no solution has been found,” she said.

“We are not keen on putting dividers on lines in residential areas as it just pushes the problem on to neighbouring houses.

“Unfortunately the men have to be paid to carry out the work when dividers are fitted.”
