Ballymoney Council says yes to £65,000 Dervock games area

BALLYMONEY Borough Council has endorsed a £65,000 project to provided a small Multi Use Games Area together with outdoor gym equipment and seating in Dervock.

During a recent Amenities Committee meeting the report explained: ‘Arising from recent discussions with representatives of Dervock & District Community Association plans are being finalised in order to extend the facilities at the Councils Riverside Park, Dervock, to provide both a small MUGA (24m x 14m) together with outdoor gym equipment and seating.

‘The scheme (costing circa £65,000) is to be funded from the monies remaining within the RDP ‘pot’. To proceed as is now proposed the following actions are necessary:

‘Council agree in principle to the provision of the additional facilities to be provided under the Dervock RDP Project on its land at Riverside Park, Dervock;

‘Make application to RDP by its deadline – 21st September 2012 (setting out the revised spend proposals); Secure planning permission; and Advertise for a contractor select list for the project.’

It is recommended that Council endorse the project action plan as outlined above.

At the meeting Cllr John Finlay said he was happy to support the project however questioned if the scheme would ‘hurt the current application in Dervock?’

In response the Director, John Michael explained that the projects were on ‘two entirely separate sites’ adding ‘ones in the Riverside Park area and one is in Dervock’s Recreation Park’.

Cllr Ian Stevenson said he was ‘happy a MUGA was being created’.
