Artist’s photo book offers a melancholy look at a forgotten Dungannon

Dungannon artist and photographer Marty Cullen has spent the last year taking photographs of the town’s most famous and picturesque landscapes as well as scenes off the beaten-track and has compiled them in a volume entitled Dungannon in View: The Ancient Capital of Ulster.

It offers a melancholy look at scenes such as a set of neglected dog-traps at the former Oaks Road practice, and abandoned cottages in the Tyrone countryside.

“I took the photographs to capture the architecture, history and atmosphere of Dungannon”, said Marty.

“This is a very important time in the history of the town with the opening of the Hill of the O’Neill and the Ranfurly Arts Centre.

“My book is a good reference point for people who are new to the town are who want a souvenir reminder. If offers unusual vantage points of some interesting sites that tourists would not normally see.”

The book has already sold to customers in Australia and the US, and has been launched for the Christmas market.

“The book is a high quality large hardback, and the prints are produced to museum standard”, added Marty. “They are all black and white and reproduced in jewel tones.”
