Appeal made to grit Carrick's roads

The local Unionist Association made an appeal for roads to be gritted in January 1990.

A spokesperson said that it was a priority that roads were gritted in icy conditions.

The association said that concessions made by the DOE to grit the lower ends of some roads and not further up the roads were no good for motorists who were sliding further up the roads.

The spokesperson added that the Ballypollard Road was a main bus route from Ballycarry to Larne and back and that it was also used by traffic going from Larne to Carrick.

The association also said that there had been a considerable number of new homes built in the area and that traffic had increased as a result of this. It urged the DOE to grit the entire Ballypollard Road instead of certain sections.
