Anonymity for 10 defendants

Ten adults in legal cases, with no connection to any alleged victim, have been granted an anonymity or reporting restriction order in the Londonderry Court Division, Justice Minister David Ford has revealed.

The figures emerged after a request from DUP MLA Lord Morrow, who asked the Minister “how many people in the adult court system have been granted anonymity orders where there is no nexus to any alleged victim, broken down by court and nature of the alleged offences?”

The figures quoted by Mr Ford showed that there were 10 such orders granted in the Londonderry court division, 16 in Belfast, two in Antrim and a further one in the Fermanagh and Tyrone Court Division.
