A History of the World comes to Coleraine

BEADS from Uganda, a Canadian badge and a penny whistle with links to the Crimean War. These are just some of the objects that now appear on the BBC's A History of the World website following events in Northern Ireland.

A History of the World is a unique partnership between the BBC, the British Museum and museums and libraries across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

In Northern Ireland museums have been contributing objects to A History of the World’s website – bbc.co.uk/ahistoryoftheworld - items range from the keys to Colditz Castle, a mortar from the Siege of Derry and a copy of the Good Friday Agreement. Films featuring these objects are now airing on BBC One Northern Ireland after each weekday night after the 10.30pm news (until Friday June 18).

Now the hunt is on for more objects – this time from the public - which is why a team from BBC Northern Ireland will be visiting Coleraine Library on Sunday, June 27.

A History of the World project manager Claire Burgoyne says, “We are looking for man-made objects with a local and a global story and I am sure the people of Coleraine won’t disappoint.

“The objects needn’t necessarily have any great monetary value, often ordinary objects can tell the most extra-ordinary stories.”

The Coleraine Library event is taking place from 1pm to 4.30pm on Sunday, June 27 and everyone is very welcome.
