10,000 students to receive results

LONDONDERRY students will be amongst 10,000 able to receive their A-Level results online this summer.

The facility - developed by the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) - is part of a modernisation process to reduce costs and is more environmentally friendly than paper-based results.

Current initiatives include the use of online exams, onscreen marking as well as the facility for students to receive their results online.

Siobhan Matthewson, Head of ICT at Lumen Christi College, supports CCEA’s strives for modernisation: “It is great to see that CCEA is making efforts to make the lives of centres easier during the high pressure results season.

“I also look forward to the enhanced post examination data analysis which will help me better understand how my pupils performed in their exams.”

Anne Marie Duffy, Director of Qualifications at CCEA believes that continuous modernisation is essential: “Over the past year CCEA has been working on a range of projects which will provide a more efficient and user friendly service for students and schools.

“This year over 10,000 A Level students can receive their results using online technology. This has both environmental and cost saving benefits through the reduction of paper-based processes and will allow candidates to access their results from anywhere.

“This will help reduce the impact on family holidays and the ever-popular gap year trips.

“We will also be providing more information than ever before to help staff in schools to analyse the performance of their students much more easily.

“This year we have scanned more than 50,000 scripts allowing more than 180 examiners to mark them online using onscreen technology. This speeds up the process of marking such a huge number of scripts whilst ensuring the highest levels of security and quality control.

“ believe that these modernisation initiatives are critical if we are to continue to provide our schools and students with the best possible levels of service and support.”
