Outdoor Santa Experience at Riverside Theatre

With Christmas approaching, at this time of year the theatre would usually be hosting sold out shows with standing ovations and welcoming hundreds of school children and members of the public to its popular pantomime, but this year things have had to change.

Roseanne Sturgeon, manager of the Riverside Theatre said: “At the start of the year we had a busy season ahead of us, with some schools already booked in to attend our Christmas pantomime Cinderella for December 2020.

“Like all theatres, Covid has been a huge challenge for us and we have been unable to open since March. We have, however, continued to work within the guidelines to create new, bespoke, socially distanced theatre experiences as well as online theatre productions and lectures. So far we’ve been absolutely blown away by the response from the public.

“There is so much good will for the work we are doing and there is significant demand for it, especially for families who don’t want to miss out on the magic of Christmas this year.”

This Christmas season, the small Riverside team has worked tirelessly to create an Outdoor Santa Experience that promises to be safe, yet full of festive sparkle and fun that local families will enjoy. The experience includes storytelling and puppetry with Mr Hullaballoo and friends, meeting Santa for a

socially distanced photo and a chat, and families will also get to meet Mrs Claus in her cosy Christmas kitchen.

The experience also includes a present for each child, a craft workshop to take home, and complimentary hot drinks and refreshments for adults and children.
