Inspiring adults - the Army Cadet Force wants you

The Army Cadet Force is looking for new Adult Instructors to take on part time roles in local Cadet Detachments. 

You must be over eighteen to apply, but you don’t need to be super fit or have a military or teaching background, as Colonel Maurice Warnock, Cadet Commandant 2nd (NI) Bn ACF explains.

He say:, “We’re looking for people with the right qualities, commitment and attitude. If they bring those, we can equip them with the right training and development. 

“Naturally we’ll be delighted to welcome applications from people who are already working with teenagers in their ‘day job’, but we’re also very open to interest from people whose careers have taken them in other directions. 

“If you’re the sort of person who gets on well with teenagers and have a real interest in their welfare and development, this could be a great opportunity to turn that interest into a part-time career.

“The Army Cadet Force is one of the biggest and longest established youth organisations in the country and here in the area in and around Lurgan, Portadown and Craigavon it is flourishing. 

“We have fantastic Cadets and some truly inspiring youth leaders, but we want to do still more – hence our current recruitment drive.

“We want to find Adult Instructors who can match the enthusiasm of our Cadets and who are genuinely up for a challenge. 

“In our business you really do ‘lead from the front’ and adventure training and fun challenges are what give the edge and fun to Cadet membership. 

“Adult Instructors must be up for sharing in that ‘serious fun’ and a sense of humour isn’t just useful, it’s mandatory!

“Adult Instructors also have to show more subtle skills, for their role includes mentoring Cadets, helping them to gain self-confidence and discipline in a friendly environment. 

“They will also support Cadets towards attaining ACF and, increasingly, BTEC qualifications - important milestones in a teenager’s life.

“No-one would say that this is an easy role, but it is a privilege to be able to shape a positive future for a young person. It is at once challenging and rewarding and the best boredom-buster that I know of!”

Adult Instructors in the Army Cadet Force are also financially rewarded with payment for up to 28 days a year.
