Dealing with Difference workshop

WheelWorks, an established arts organisation which provides young people with access to artistic activity, giving them a voice to express themselves creatively, is hosting a workshop in the Waterside.

Its members have worked with some of the most marginalised young people in Northern Ireland using arts as a developmental tool in participative youth work, and resulting from this work resources have been developed which can be utilised as an awareness-raising tool.

‘Dealing with Difference’ is an innovative training programme looking at issues such as Racism Awareness, Disability Awareness and Homophobia Awareness. The workshop will bring together the expertise of professional facilitators and experienced arts practitioners who have devised an exciting training programme that offers experiential ways of learning and a safe place to explore these issues.

Aimed at youth workers, centre based, project, outreach and street-based workers who are working with a wide range of young people, arts workers who are working with groups of young people on a short or longer term basis and freelance artists undertaking arts projects or issue based work, the training offers increased confidence for youth and arts workers to work with marginalised young people using arts as an innovative and developmental tool and is an opportunity for greater knowledge and increased awareness on social issues.

The workshop is on Homophobia Awareness Training, and will take place on Friday, April 20, from 10am to 4pm, at the Waterside Theatre. To book a place email [email protected] or telephone 028 9024 4063.
