Ballycastle guys rock n roll in Soda Shop Pop at Riverside!

The first act of this exciting line up, and back by public demand, is Tom Crean starring actor Aidan Dooley, who is known for his outstanding performance in the best show outside of London’s West End and Broadway. Aidan was nominated for Best Actor at the Dublin Fringe Festival in 2003 and best solo performance Award winner in the New York International Fringe Festival 2003.

Crean’s story is a testament of human fortitude against all the elements of the Antarctic; his 36 mile, solitary trek to base camp during the Terra Nova expedition to rescue his comrades Teddy Evans and William Lashly, has been described by Antarctic historians as “the finest feat of individual heroism from the entire age of exploration”. He was subsequently awarded the Albert Medal for his bravery.

This is a story of discovery and bravery, which will captivate you from start to finish.

The second act in the Riverside line-up is “The Soda Shop Pop” with Victoria Lagan Dance and Drama Youth Presentation.

This is an evening that will take you back to the swinging 50s and 60s, the great era of rock ‘n’ roll.

This exciting musical with its upbeat cast will be sure to have you wishing you’d brought your dancing shoes.

The show stars two local Ballycastle actors - Lee McLaughlin and Callum McKeeman.

And the 1950s music will be brough to life by Ballymoney musical director Andrew Robinson.

On Wednesday, February 12, the Riverside proudly presents an evening of celebrity chat with Northern Ireland’s own TV broadcaster, Mark Carruthers who will be interviewed by Derry author and journalist, Susan McKay.

With his own finely – tuned interviewing skills, Mark’s latest book, Alternative Ulsters, shows that he is able to draw each contributor to the book into a personal reflection on identity.

Mark is no stranger to the Riverside Theatre, as NI’s most respected political journalist, author of several books, presenter of the weekly “The View” on BBC TV and popular radio anchorman, honed his performance skills acting on the Riverside stage.

As well as his triumph as Oliver, in Lionel Bart’s musical of the same name in 1978 with Jimmy Nesbitt, Mark proved to be an astonishingly versatile young actor .
