The Britannia Concert Band and Dundonald Community Concert Band will stage an evening of music, entitled ‘A Night at the Movies’, in Waterside Theatre, on Saturday, May 9, at 7.45pm.
The bands will also bring their show to Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn, on May 16, at 7.30pm.
Tickets for the event are £10 or £5 concessionary.
Inspired by the moving pictures shows of a century ago, with music swirling from a nighty Wurlitzer organ, Martyn Goodman, chairman of the Britannia Concert Band, hit upon the idea of producing the show ‘A Night at the Movies’.
Along with the Dundonald Community Concert Band, the Britannia Concert Band will perform the music from around 20 film segments taken from the most popular films of recent years. While the music is being performed, scenes from the movies will be projected onto a giant screen above the musicians.
Promising to be one of the most exciting concerts ever to be staged locally, ‘A night at the Races’ is under the directorship of Noel Barr (Britannia) and Trevor Carter (Dundonald), and there will be excerpts from Mama Mia, The Lion King, Les Miserables, Shrek, The Blues Brothers, James Bond, Pirates of the Caribbean, Braveheart, Star Wars, The Mission and many more.
Tickets can be booked from the Waterside Theatre Box Office on 02871 314000.
Also on sale on these evenings will be a CD of the Showstoppers concerts recorded recently in the Millennium Forum in collaboration with the Londonderry Musical Society. These CDs with 25 high quality tracks are also available from band members and members of the LMS, priced £10.
