United enter cup fray

Limavady United will finally begin their JJB Irish Cup campaign this weekend as they come in at the fourth round and after a succession of postponements due to the weather.

Championship Two side Wakehurst will be the visitors to the Showgrounds in what will be their second visit this season.

The two sides met earlier in the season in the Craig Memorial Cup with the Roesiders winning comfortably.

They won 5-0 back in September with Niall Cooke (2), Conleth McCaughan, Damian McNulty and Peter Spratt all on target.

Wakehurst are currently second in Championship Two although this in only on goal difference behind Tobermore United.

They have won six of their nine league games, drawing two and only having lost once in the league.

The Magpies have scored twenty one goals in those games but have conceded thirteen in the same time.

Wakehurst hammered Queens University in their last game, but have won only once in their preceding three league games.

Going into the game United boss Oran Kearney will be glad to get back into action again after several postponements.

"It will be good if we can get back into cup action this weekend after missing several postponements," he said.

"We didn't even manage to train properly at all through December really with the weather which is an obvious frustration.

"I'm expecting a tough encounter in this game and I suppose we know exactly what to expect from them.

"They were up for it in the last game and I expect them to be exactly the same this time around. We have to be professional in our approach to the game and I'm sure that we will be exactly that. We don't want a repeat of last season against Malachians where we let ourselves down badly.

"We will concentrate on our own performance and if we do that then we'll progress to the next round," concluded Kearney.

Chris Rodden will definitely miss this game as he still hasn't recovered from an ankle injury picked up against Moyola Park.

United are also without the services of Shane Jennings who has returned to Linfield as his loan spell is up.
