The ‘Rusty Rackets’ beginner’s session on Tuesday evenings has proved particularly popular with membership increasing each week and the club hope to keep these sessions going throughout September.

The club recently held an internal tournament which had a huge turnout of 34 members coming down to play on Saturday afternoon, which was great to see.

Several members of City of Derry Tennis Club have competed in tournaments throughout the province with members travelling to Omagh, Enniskillen, Letterkenny and Limavady.

Two of Derry’s most promising juniors both took home titles at the Fermanagh Open Tournament with Andrew Hatrick winning the Under 12 Boy’s Singles and his brother Michael Hatrick winning the Under 14 Boys’ Singles.

They both took home titles at the West of Ulster Championships in Irvinestown, and Andrew has been called up to the Ulster Squad which is a great achievement.

On a senior level, Martin Fryer won the Men’s B Doubles in Omagh with his partner Donal Burns and Steven McDowell won the plate for the Men’s Open Singles.

During the County Londonderry Championships held In Limavady Peter Fryer and partner Eva Lennox came runner up in the Open Mixed Doubles event, Martin Fryer won the B Men’s Doubles with partner Michael Miskelly and Adrian Ford was runner up in the B Men’s Doubles with Limavady partner Jordan Wallace.

A successful season was had all round and as Autumn leagues are beginning the chairperson would like to welcome anyone who wants to give tennis a go.
