Rough conditions for Culmore sailers
LOUGH Foyle Yacht Club (LFYC) was host Club for the Purcell Trophy held at Culmore Point during the weekend.
This event is one of the major events for the GP14 Class dinghies, with 25 boats turning up to take part.
The very stormy conditions meant that only 12 crews braved the elements and took to the water on Saturday.
Three races took place with a spectacular display of sailing with winds gusting to force six, with some inevitable capsizes. On Sunday the wind conditions worsened with the remaining races being called off.
The results were based on the three races that were sailed. The overall winners were Keith Louden and Dessie Hughes of LFYC; second place went to John and Donald McGuiness, Moville Boat Club, and third place went to Richard Street and Sam Crilly from Blessington Sailing Club.
Participants came from Sligo, Blessington, Dublin, Sutton, Newtownards, Antrim, Moville and Culmore.
