Last week saw the dry weather continue across the province with Roe Park seeing golfers turning out in huge numbers to make the most of it.

With the course in great shape and the Spring League reaching the halfway point the scene was set for some pretty tough scoring thanks to a chilling wind coming off the north coast.

First up was a Club Stableford on Thursday which saw the better conditions in the afternoon as the wind calmed down slightly.

Past Captain Neville Martin undoubtedly played his best round of the year as he scored a fantastic 40 points for victory.

The foundations were laid with a tidy 18 points on the front nine holes before letting loose on the back nine with a superb 22 points.

Cathal McNicholl and Chris Thompson both scored 38 points, with Cathal taking second and Chris third thanks to a better back nine score.

Limavady & Bells Taxis sponsored the Club Stableford on Saturday which once again saw dry, windy conditions provide a stern challenge for all.

John McKay and Kieran Doherty certainly fought hard for their scores of 38 points with Kieran eventually taking the win thanks to a better back nine score of 20 points.

Runner up John and indeed Kieran will be more than happy with the result as it truly was a tough day at the office for all involved.

Third place went to Gary Marshall with another hard fought 37 points and Andy Young is showing some good from in the run up to the Golfer of the Year as he won the best gross prize with a solid four over round 74.

The Spring League sees new leaders after the third week with Kieran Doherty, Noel McClarey, Shea Hogg and Danny Quinn sitting on top with 228 points. In second place are Kieran Berryman, Norman McMichael, Bryan Donaghy and Willie McCormick with 226 points.

Third on 224 points is Sean Hasson, Ryan Magee, Michael Mullin and Declan Quigley.

This week sees Bonds Jewellers sponsor a Club Stableford on Saturday and there will be the usual club competitions on Thursday and Sunday.
