On Saturday and Sunday the Faughan Valley GC hosted a Stableford competition which was generously sponsored by Mr Kieran O’Doherty from Premier Travel in Carlisle Road.

In first place was John McCourt (19) who scored 41 points. Second place went to the in-form Glenn Hinds (9) with 40 points and in third spot was Syl Marshall (21) with 39 points.

The front nine prize went to 10 handicapper Lee Totton who scored 20 points while the back nine was won by Martin Mailey (17) with a tremendous score of 23 points.

There were four winners of the club’s sweep - Glenn Hinds, Glenn Curran, Darren Redden and Lee O’Connor.

Warmest congratulations to Damian Boyle who defeated Kevin Hunter 3 and 2 in the final of the Faughan Valley Club ‘Singles’ competition which has been very kindly sponsored throughout by Babington & Croasdaile Solicitors.

This Saturday, Ladies Captain Celine McIvor, will host the annual Lady Captain’s Charity Day for which the chosen charity this year is the NSPCC.

All members are asked to support this very deserving cause and are advised that a time-sheet will be in operation.

On Sunday the final of the North-West Inter-club League between Faughan Valley and Ballyliffin GC will be held at Foyle Golf Club with a tee-off time of 2pm.

Council and members would like to wish Mr Robert Curry and his team all the very best.

Ballyliffin are the holders of the title and Team Captain Seamus Mallon will certainly not want to relinquish the coveted title, but Robert Curry has a very capable team at his disposal and having won their section with something to spare wont be fazed by the opposition.

Section One was claimed by Faughan Valley after they finished on 26.5 points, Roe Park with 23 points were second, Buncrana with 20 points was third and Greencastle with 14.5 points was fourth.

Section Two went to Ballyliffin after finishing on 24.5 points, Redcastle were second after they scored 23 points, Foyle was third after finishing with 20 points and North West were fourth when they scored 16.5 points.

Also on Sunday, Faughan Valley will be holding an Open Stableford competition.

Meanwhile first and last players won the Sunday stableford competition at City of Derry. Vincent Devenny (7) was first out in the morning and carded 40 points to set the standard for the day.

It wasn’t until the very last player, that his 40 points was matched by Anthony Faulkner (18). Vincent managed to beat Anthony on break of tie with his 20 points back nine.

Third place went to Adrian Leckey (8) with 39 points and the gross was awarded to Aaron Taylor (1) with a gross score of 33 points.
