Daryl Gurney given survival lifeline after win over Chris Dolby

‘Superchin’ started the night three points adrift at the foot of the table but saw nearest rivals Gerwyn Price and Rob Cross lose before he toed the oche.

While not at his fluent best the Northern Irishman broke the Dolby throw four times in a 7-2 win.

Gurney is now a point behind Cross and Price with only two nights to go before one of the trio is relegated.

“I saw the results that came before me and even if they had of won I’d would have had to win that game against Chris and it wasn’t the greatest of games,” said Gurney.

“I put myself under so much pressure,

“I have been practicing so well probably the best I ever have then I walk up there and play that tripe.

“I’m glad I got away with it against Chris, it gives me a chance now but it depends on what Rob and Gizzy do over the next few nights.”

Gurney averaged 86.88 and was 37% on his doubles but Dolby appearing in his second Premier League as a contender missed 12 darts at double in the match.

Gurney hit scores of 140 and 137 on way to breaking the Dolby throw in the first leg.

He comfortably held his throw in the second leg, Dolby missed three darts at the outer ring in the next leg and Gurney hit D8 for a 3-0 lead and a second break before making it 4-0 with a tops finish.

Gurney missed D16 for 5-0 and Dolby got his first leg on the board with a D2.

'Superchin' won the next two legs before Dolby won the 8th leg.

Gurney hit his only 180 in the ninth leg and wrapped the match up with a 90 finish on D6.
