The North West Golf Club Barton Shield team were crowned Ulster Champions at Knock Golf Club at the weekend.
In the morning semi-final against Dunmurry Golf Club North West were too strong and ran out comfortable winners by 5 holes.
In a pulsating final which ebbed to and fro against a very talented Warrenpoint team North West held their nerve and produced golf which would not of looked out of place in a Ryder Cup match.
Birdie after Birdie, with 4 holes actually being halved in birdies.
In a very tense back nine North West showed their class and started to edge ahead around the 15th/16th holes.
At the 16th hole Kyle McCarron and Garrett Mallon went 1 up after Kyle hit a sublime 7 Iron at the 185 yard par 3 to 15 feet to secure a 2 putt winning par.
With Ryan Gribben and Kealan Quigg 2 up playing the 18th it only needed a half from either pairing to secure the Ulster Title.
A drive from Ryan Gribben which split the 18th fairway was followed by a 150 yard 8 Iron from Kealan Quigg which finished 3 feet from the hole, with Warrenpoint in trouble off the Tee is was all over.
The Barton Shield Team of Ryan Gribben, James Lindsay, Garrett Mallon, David McGeough, Kyle McCarron, Kealan Quigg, which is captained by John O’Donnell now travel to Carton House for the All Ireland Finals on the 16th and 17th of September.
