Leckie claims Nexus Charity Open at Prehen
Robert Leckie (10) scored a very steady 42 points to take first place in the Nexus Charity Open at City of Derry on Saturday.
His best ever round of four over par at Prehen and he was over the moon with his performance.
Colin Jeffrey (7) finished second with 41 points on a tie break with Malachy Armstrong (28) and the fourth spot went to James McGeady (28) who had 40 points.
Dee McKenna (scr) a former member of the club was the best visitor and the best low man with his superbly compiled 38 points. Sean Quigg (2) had the best front nine score of 22 points on a count back and the second nine was won by Michael McDaid (11) with a fine 23 points.
Three ladies prizes were on offer and they went to Geraldine Crossan (12) and Brenda Chauhan (18) 1st and second respectively on 35 points break of tie and Melody Leonard (35) on 34 points in third place.
Mr John Rosborough’s Captain’s Day is on Saturday. Members are asked to put their name on the time sheet in the Pro Shop and are also reminded that they need six cards returned to qualify to play for the main prize.
Prehen’s opening Par 3 hole is a daunting challenge for most golfers but Barry McMemamin (21) made light of it with an impressive birdie and four Stableford points in the Weekly Thursday Open, he went on to finish with 43 points, a massive five points clear of the field and recorded his first win at City of Derry.
Noel O’Donnell (18) scored 38 points for second and Ricky Porter (20) had 37 points to take third place on a tie break. Best of the visitors was Jim McLaughlin (17) from North West with 37 points.
