Kieran Berryman, winner of The Resort Cup at Roe Park, on Saturday and defending Golfer of the Year champion.

Saturday saw the majority of members turning out to play in The Resort Cup for a chance to win some of the amazing prizes on offer.

Kieran Berryman showed a return to good form as he won the event with a simply brilliant round of 2 under par 68 and 39 points.

Kieran Doherty, Nigel Mearns and Johnny Forsythe also scored 39 points with all being separated using the count back rule. Nigel took the gross prize thanks to his lever par round of 70 which included a superb eagle at the tough par 5 fourth hole.

The runner-up spot went to Kieran Doherty which left Johnny Forsythe taking third place.

Andy Dunn won the nearest the pin at the ninth and Cathal McNicholl won the longest drive at eighteen.

Best front nine went to Malcolm Stuart and best back nine went to Eugene McManus.

Nigel Mearns is homing in on the Golfer of the Year title as he currently leads the way with a total of 100 points. Nigel continues to play superbly leading near enough from the start and holds a lead of 18 points over second place man Andy Young.

With only four weeks left of the competition it will take a huge effort form both men to remain at the top as every point earned will be hard fought for sure.

Defending champion Kieran Berryman is a good ways back but if he can keep winning who’s to say he won’t be in the mix in the final week. One things for sure it certainly looks like being an exciting August at Roe Park.

Next up this coming week sees The Trustees Cup Four Ball Better Ball played on Saturday with fantastic prizes by sponsors, O’Kane’s Service Station. There will also be the usual Club Stableford competitions on Thursday and Sunday.

While last weekend Faughan Valley hosted the JC Haliday stableford open and there was a great turn out on both Saturday and Sunday.

With all three scoring 40 points the first three spots being decided on a BOT, in first place was Tommy Donnell (22) having the superior back nine; second place went to Tony Griffiths (20) and in third place was Lee O’Connor (8).

On Sunday the club’s Jimmy Bruen team lost to Fort William at Moyola Park.

A reminder to all members that Captain Robert Smallwoods will be hosting his Captains Day this Saturday.

With the time sheet filling in rapidly and the draw taking place on Thursday night.
