Willis links up with City

Local man Josh Willis has had a lifelong interest in sporting memorabilia and over the past year or so he has been building up stock in the hope of developing the idea into a business.

Derry City midfielder Barry Molloy wishes Josh Willis all the best with his new venture with the Candystripes.

He has accumulated a vast array of collectables from across the sporting globe including photographs personally signed by the likes of Michael Jordan, and his own personal favourite, Muhammad Ali.

Football obviously features heavily in his collection with shirts and other items signed personally by the likes of Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen.

He also has framed pennants signed by the Barcelona team from 2006 that included all the greats and one from Real Madrid (2003) which includes the likes of David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane.

Over the winter Josh launched his website, starsignedmemoribilia.com and last month he agreed with Derry City to take over the requests for signed equipment from the Brandywell club.

Each year City receive a high volume of requests from across the province for signed shirts and balls and a spokesman at the club said that these requests will now be directed through Mr Willis.

“We receive many requests in the course of the season and all of them are extremely worthwhile causes. In terms of a business however it would prove very costly to be continually giving stuff away.

“We have therefore agreed that Josh will handle requests for signed Derry City gear from this season on.

“Anyone looking for signed equipment should contact Josh on the number or website provided and he will advise them on what they need to do. Josh will then bring items for signing to the club and we will ensure that these are dealt with as soon as possible.”

Mr Willis said that “starsignedmemorabilia.com was delighted to be associated with Derry City Football Club and would ensure that all business would be dealt with promptly and professionally.”
