Meet the Ardmore squad

THIS Friday night Ardmore take on Eglinton in the North West City Cup Final, at Wilton Park.

Manager Damien McGee gives us his account of his squad as they continue their quest for four trophies this season.

Richard Stewart (Goalkeeper) - Richard is a very commanding keeper, the back four is confident when this man is between the posts.

Michael McCann (Defender) - Has made the right-back berth his in recent months, with some strong displays. A no nonsense tackler.

Eamon Donnelly (Defender) - ‘Massive’ as he is known to his team-mates, has been a massive player in recent weeks. He’s a skilful left back and can hit a good free-kick.

Steven Melly (Defender) - Has formed a super partnership with Danny Doherty at the heart of the defence and he can pop up with the odd goal.

Danny Doherty (Defender) - Danny’s 21 and has captained the side now for four seasons, very classy centre-half.

Philip Deehan (Defender) - Philip can play centre-half or in centre-midfield. Good in the air and hard in the tackle and scores his fair share of goals.

Anthony Hargan (Defender) - Anthony was Young Player of the Year last season, but he has missed a lot this season because he has been playing GAA for the Doire minors. But if called upon never lets the team down and is a big game player.

Peter McLaughlin (Midfielder) - Peter is a centre midfielder who has a big heart and gives his all for the cause. He has a super engine and is a player who loves a tackle.

Gary Collett (Midfielder) - Classy winger who likes nothing better than dribbling past his opponents. He’s a fit as a flea and knows where the goals are.

Gerard McDaid (Midfielder) - This is Gerard’s first season with the club and he’s put in some solid performances. He has scored some important goals this season and loves to strike a dead-ball, he’s very good at taking free-kicks.

Sean Roddy (Midfielder) - Sean hasn’t featured much this season because of injuries and work commitments, but if called upon will be up for the job.

Mark McLaughlin (Midfielder) - Yabba as he’s known is another who likes to run at defenders. He’s a tricky little wing man who knows where the net is.

Barry Gormley (Striker) - Barry can play in either midfield or up front. He would play with one leg, such is his heart and desire for Ardmore. Classy finisher and another who loves a tackle.

Gareth Brown (Striker) - What a find this wee man has been this season. He dismantled Greysteel and Maghera Strollers in our both City and Junior Cup semi-finals. Gareth is no doubt a match winner.

Carl O’Kane (Striker) - Carl is a old fashion centre forward; he holds the ball up well and is good in the air. He’s the club’s top scorer with 26 goals and that’s taking into account that he has missed five weeks through injury.

Jack Higgins (Striker) - There’s no doubt young Jack has a bright future. He’s a very intelligent player for a lad of just 15-years-old. He’s a good passer of the ball.
