Kee fuming with Doherty after moment of madness in Belfast
Institute manager Paul Kee conceded that his side were lucky not to be down to ten men at the break on Saturday, after goalkeeper Michael Doherty had a moment of madness.
Doherty, who returned to the Waterside men this season after being released by Premiership side Coleraine in the summer, pushed Knockbreda’s Miguel Chines, while inside the box, but amazingly for the Limavady man referee Ken Gibbons only cautioned him when a red card looked certain as he raised his hands.
“Michael did deserve to get sent-off, so the referee in fairness has done us a favour there,” stated Kee.
“It’s totally unacceptable what he did, he’s a big player for us this year and he can’t continue to do those things, because if he’s doing those things, then he ain’t doing the team or himself any favours, so I’ll be having a chat about that this week at training.”
