Institute boss Kevin Deery feels Alex Pomeroy definitely has a bright future ahead of him, as long as he keeps working at his game.
The striker who has scored 17 goals for the Stute’s U19 side and on Saturday he netted his first senior goal.
Pomeroy has in recent weeks been involved in the first team squad but continues to play for the club’s Colts side.
Last weekend he played 60 minutes in the morning for the Colts in their narrow 2-1 home defeat to leaders Linfield Rangers and yes you guessed it, he opened the scoring, before coming off the bench and scoring against Loughgall.
“I think everyone remembers the Derry City friendly when he tried to ding the penalty down the middle, even though he said he didn’t; so we always knew that he has great composure and his goal proved that,” he said.
“I have watched him a good few times in the U19’s and when he gets in he certainly is going to work the goalkeeper if not score.
“His goal was a lovely finish for a young man and he can take great confidence from that and continue to work hard at his game.”
