The Belfast men, who lost 3-0 at the Riverside Stadium only 10 days ago, deserved to book their place in the next round.

For the Drumahoe side they were second best and only troubled Welders keeper Samuel Johnston once in the entire 120 minutes, while in McKee, Welders had a striker who caused the home side’s defence a host of problems all night.

Stute went close on 22 minutes but Mark Scoltock’s close range header from Ryan Doherty’s teasing free-kick was saved by Johnston.

Moments later McKee should have had a penalty when Darryl McDermott looked to have pulled the striker back, but instead of going down while inside the box he stayed on his feet and although he rounded keeper Harry Doherty, that’s when he went to ground and referee Garvin Taggart rightfully waved play-oin.

McKee missed a great chance on 55 minutes as he broke clear of the Stute defence but with only Doherty to beat, he dragged his shot wide when through on goal.

Welders had striker David Rainey was sent-off on 85 minutes for an altercation with Ryan Morrow, but it was the ten men who went close to winning the tie in normal time.

The opening goal came three minutes into extra-time as Scoltock brought down McKee inside the box; referee Taggart pointed to the spot and also dismissed the Stute centre-back for a second bookable offence and the big striker fired home from 12 yards.

Although Stute had a lot of posession in extra-time they never threatened Johnston and the tie was ended as a contest on 119 minutes as McKee added a second.

Once again his pace meant he skipping clear of the Stute defence and slotted the ball past Doherty.
