Female Sport coaches in the North West could soon have extra support after the launch of a new programme entitled
‘Inspiring Women in Sport’.
The programme is esigned to address inequalities in coaching and is specifically aimed at creating a more diverse workforce with more active female coaches.
The programme is based on research which demonstrates that women are poorly represented in sports participation and specifically in coaching.
Research from Sports Coach UK (2015) highlights that only 30 per cent of females make up the coaching population with only 17 per cent attaining the relevant coaching qualifications.
‘Inspiring Women in Sport’ aims to support female coaches to improve their knowledge, experience and coaching skills. The programme is open to female coaches at all levels who are passionate about learning, developing and supplementing their education.
Activities will be based primarily in Derry City and coaches from this region are being encouraged to engage in the programme.
The programme will be delivered over a period of 12 months and each participant will receive Sport N.I. certification upon completion as well as ‘Inspiring Women in Sport’ branded sports clothing.
The first session will take place on Sunday 22nd November at the Foyle Arena, Derry-Londonderry from 10am-2pm.
